Operating Instructions
Congratulations and thank you for buying your Miller Marine Products Anchor Locker. This Anchor Locker is designed for anchor deploying, retrieving and storage. The anchor locker has been designed to make it easier for the vessel operator to store, deploy his or her anchor while fishing alone or for charter operators to perform these functions without a second person.
Anchor Storage
Pull the No Lose Pin, place the anchor in the bracket with the bottom cross bar of the anchor resting against the anchor bumpers and the shaft of the anchor sitting in the cradle. Now insert the No Lose Pin through a link in the chain as close as possible to the lower anchor cross bar. The anchor should be secured in the bracket and should not move excessively in any direction.
Anchor Deployment
Deploying the anchor with the Anchor Locker has just gotten a lot easier. Before arriving at the point where you want to drop anchor stop the boat in a safe spot and lay out your rope, chain and anchor ball if using one. Make sure you have attached the chain to the anchor and the rope to chain. Now pull the No Lose Pin, and with one hand holding the anchor chain push the anchor out until the balance of the anchor has made it tip forward and would fall in the water if the chain were to be let go. You do not need to lift the anchor this should be able to be done with very little effort. Now take a link of the chain and slide it into the chain groove on the right rear of the Anchor Locker body. Carefully lay out your chain taking care not to pull the chain out of the chain cleat. Take your rope and or chain (depending on how much chain you have attached to your anchor) to the drivers seat and lay it on the floor in the center of the boat next to the drivers seat, taking care not to pull on the chain and releasing the anchor (this is where a good anchor rope bag comes in handy).*Walk-through Windsheild Models Only... Maneuver the boat to the point you want to drop the anchor, pull back on the rope or chain and let it run through your hands until you feel the anchor hit bottom, now place the vessel in reverse backing down and paying out the rope until you have the proper scope of line out for the current and depth of the water-Place vessel
in Neutral. Secure the rope to the vessel. We recommend using a “clam cleat” appropriately sized for your anchor rope. The use of a clam cleat makes this anchor system the easiest to use.
Anchor Retrieval
Retrieving your anchor has also been made easier with your new Anchor Locker. Pulling anchor by hand without the use of an anchor puller buoy system is as follows. Make sure the No Lose Pin is in the pulled position. Start your vessels engine and put the vessel into forward gear with just enough RPM to slowly ease the vessel forward gather your rope in over the roller as you go this can be done from the drivers seat in most vessels. When you get to the point that you have pulled in all of the free rope and you are lifting the anchor continue to pull in your rope and chain until you have reached the anchor note the position of the anchor. You may need to twist the rope or chain to line up the cross bar of the anchor with the rollers on the Anchor Locker. When you have the anchor lined up pull the anchor the rest of the way in you will notice the anchor go over center of the rollers and sit in place you may release the rope now. At this point you can pin the anchor with the No Lose Pin to secure it in place for travel.
Retrieving your anchor with the use of an anchor pulling buoy setup; leave the rope in the rope roller of the Anchor Locker and pull the anchor using the instructions supplied with your anchor buoy retrieval system. Keep an eye on the anchor buoy if the buoy is pulled completely under water that indicates you have a stuck anchor and you need to remove the rope from the Anchor Locker. The strains that could be exerted on the Anchor Locker from a stuck anchor are hard to calculate and the Anchor Locker was not designed to pull stuck anchors, damage caused by attempting to pull a stuck anchor will not be covered under your warranty. Make sure the No Lose Pin is in the pulled position. Point the bow away from the anchor buoy and gather up your rope by pointing the bow away from the buoy it allows the rope to stay in the rope grove and on the roller. Gathering the rope with the bow at any other angle other than straight at the buoy or 180 degrees more or lees away from the buoy may cause the rope to come away from the rope roller and make gathering the rope difficult and could damage your rope. After you have gathered the rope simply slowly pull your rope in with the buoy attached most anchor pulling buoy attachments will feed right through the anchor locker. When you get to the point that you have pulled in all of the free rope and buoy and you are lifting the anchor (with vessel in neutral)continue to pull in your rope and chain until you have reached the anchor note the position of the anchor.
